Hey there! We are Shaun and KateLyn (Katie) Syphus. We are a violin/piano duo, who are partners in the duet of life too! (Is that cheesy enough for you?) We met in St. George, Utah, where we were both pursuing our undergraduate degrees in music at Dixie State University. We were married in March of 2014, and have been performing together ever since. We have three kids and we love music and family most of all. Read our bios below to get to know us better as musicians.

Shaun Syphus began playing piano at age seven. He found joy in the learning process from the beginning and as a result went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in piano from Dixie State University, where he successfully performed, accompanied, and collaborated. He now runs a piano studio as a private piano teacher, and gigs regularly for weddings and events. Shaun is especially proficient in music theory, composing and arranging. He recently switched gears and is currently attending Rocky Mountain University studying to become a Physician’s Assistant. Though Shaun won’t be doing music full time anymore as he pursues the medical field, he still dedicates time to practicing and performing, and is still very much involved in the musical world.

KateLyn Syphus began playing piano at age seven, and started violin shortly thereafter. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in violin from Dixie State University. A few years later she earned a Master’s Degree in Arts Administration from Southern Utah University. During her schooling she attended the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in British Columbia, Canada, and Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina. While in St. George, Katie was a member of Tuacahn Amphitheater’s pit orchestra, and concertmaster of the local community orchestra. She works as a contracted musician with artists like Mannheim Steamroller, Celtic Woman, Kurt Bestor, Wayne Newton, and Lux Singers to name a few. She also records with local artists and performs regularly in chamber music ensembles. She is currently a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square, and Director of Development for Lux Choral Society.
